June is a milestone month for me here in California. June 3rd marks 3 years of living in San Diego, and June 23rd will be 3 years of working at my current job. I think I will wait until I am no longer living in California before I sit down and reflect upon my time here.
I've made a lot of judgements about SD before on my blog, but I started to think the other day that might not be entirely fair. My love for Boston grew stronger after I wasn't there anymore, as I realized by living in other places what a dynamic city it actually is. Maybe... just maybe I will learn to appreciate California for what it is someday as well.
While on the topic of Boston, I am really amazed at how that city's sports teams just seem to win championship after championship now. When I first moved there in 2001, the city hadn't enjoyed success in any sport since 1986. The Red Sox were perennial losers, the Celtics were stuck with a team going no where, the Bruins were an after thought, which left only the Patriots who were on the brink of something special. By the time my freshmen year was over the Patriots had won the Superbowl and Tom Brady was becoming a Boston icon. Over the next couple of years the New England Patriots won 2 more super bowls and the Red Sox were the owners of the world series trophy. I couldn't believe how quickly it all happened. The Celtics were still bottoms dwellers but that all changed with 2 trades in 2007 and suddenly they won an NBA title. Now this past Wednesday night the Boston Bruins became the latest of the Boston teams to win their sports championship. Some cities would be happy with any one of there teams winning in a 10 year period, but the city of Boston has seen all 4 teams win in a ten year span.
