Today is the 6th Anniversary of "The World According to Shawn". Every year that passes, I find it more and more amazing that this blog is still going. A lot has changed in my life over the last 6 years. I've been to many different places, and met so many different people. I don't write everything that happens in my blog, but I try to include a few things that help me remember all the special events.
I have been counting down the days until my friends from Ireland arrive, because I feel like that is when my summer will officially begin. Since I have lived in San Diego, I've met a lot of people, but its a lot harder to make close friends the older you get, at least for the summer I won't have to worry about that. I'll have a close group to have some fun with, and make my 25th summer a memorable one.

May has been such a good month so far. My mom was out to visit me for a week, and we had a really good time. It didn't go the way I expected it, but it was great non-the less. Usually this was the time of year in the Northeast when the sun starts coming out again after months of cloudy weather, snow and rain. Out here in California, the weather is always nice, but I feel like I have been taking advantage of it more often recently. My mom and I saw many of the sites down here in San Diego and then went up to LA for a day and did a really interesting tour of Hollywood and Beverly Hills. I have a feeling I will do another one really soon with some of the other visitors I have coming out this summer.
This is my favorite time of year in sports as well, because all of my favorite sports are reaching critical points in the season. Manchester United won there 18th Premiership title today, and they have a chance to win there second Champions League crown in a row. I will be watching that one very closely. Christiano Ronaldo has been in excellent form all season and I feel like I am watching the best soccer player ever when I see him score so effortlessly sometimes.
The French Open tournament starts in about 2 weeks and Rafael Nadal will be trying to win his fifth title in a row there. He has been absolutely amazing this season. He is the number 1 ranked player, won the Australian Open, hasn't lost a match on clay yet this year, and if he wins the French Open will be on his way to a calendar grand slam. No man has done that since 1969, so I'm hoping to see a bit of history and it helps that Nadal is my favorite player as well.
In basketball tomorrow is Game 7 for the Celtics and Magic. It seems that every series the Celtics have played over the last 2 seasons has gone to 7 games. I'm thinking they will lose tomorrow however, because I think they were a team put together to win one title and they achieved that last season. If they keep there core players together they will be in the playoffs again next season, but I can't see them winning another Championship with those guys.
Finally on to baseball, where the Mets are in first place in the NL east and the Toronto Bluejays are in first place in the AL east. Most people are surprised by Toronto being in first, but I am not at all surprised. I picked them in the beginning of the season to win that division this year. Roy Halladay is simply a monster on the mound. If he doesn't get injured he is on pace for a 25 win season and possibly more. He also deserves a shoot to make the playoffs to see just how well he can pitch in October. As for the Mets, I'm hoping they can hold onto there position for the remainder of the season. I think we will need to make a trade for a starting pitcher at the mid-way point of the season. Would be nice if we could land Jake Peavy, in July and run away with the East lead heading in to the playoffs.
