For those of you who have never read my blog before, my favorite sport is soccer. Year in and year out I have supported Manchester United since I really started watching in about 2000. I had been only a casual soccer fan before then. Other than the Mets in Major League Baseball, Manchester United is the only other team I feel a strong affinity for. In many other sports, I am a fan of indiviuals, such as basketball where I have a few players i really like and want to see them do well each year. A few of the guys I really like in the NBA are Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, Jason Kidd, and Kirk Hinrich. I could care less what there teams do when it comes to winning a championship, but every year I'm cheering for those guys to take home some of the individual hardware. There is Tennis which is perhaps the Ultimate individual sport, and I have been watching tennis since the mid-90's religiously. I started out as a huge Pete Samparas fan, and since his retirement I have supported Rafael Nadal, and now Novak Djokavic. 2008 has definitely been the year of Nadal in tennis and he deserves it, I had never seen a player hang on to the number 2 ranking for so long, so it was only a matter of time before he took over the number 1 spot.
This year the start of the English Premier season isn't shaping up the way I thought it might. I was expecting United to build off of their Champions league victory but running away with the English League again. They are stuck mid-pack and we are 2 months into the season. Other teams that I support are also playing poorly, Tottenham is dead last, and Newcastle United isn't far behind. If both of those teams get relagated this season, I would be shocked to say the least.
