The baseball off-season is sometimes the most important part of the season for me, you really get to see which teams are elite and which ones should be minor league teams. I have to say I'm really disappointed wit hthe New York Mets once again. The Red Sox and Yankees are in a class above every one else, and Angles seem to be right behind them. Then trailing at a very distant 4th place seems to be the Mets. Instead of trying to make a deal for the Best Pitcher on the planet right now ( Johan Santana) they go and make the worst deal possible that doesn't get them a star pitcher but yet another mediocre catcher. On top of that they gave away Lastings Miledge after hyping him up to be one of the best prospects in years. I gaurantee this will come back to bite them in the ass. He will go on to have a hall of fame career and the players they got in return ( Ryan Church and Brian Scheinder) will be average at best.
To start with the Yankees, they will have a fantastic squad next year with the possibility of going to World Series just as they are always the favorites to be the last team standing in October. Their starting line up for 2008 is lacking the fire-power that they have had in recent years. Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina, Phil Hughes, Jobba Chamberlain, and Chein Ming Wang. If they add Satana, I'm sure he would win 25 games with this team.
Now on to the Red Sox, what Josh Beckett did this year probably earned him a spot on a shortlist of best pitchers of all times and he's only 27 years old. Thier starting line-up for next year is already set to be the best that I've ever seen in my lifetime. Beckett, Curt Schilling, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Clay Buchholz, Jon Lester, Tim Wakefield. Each of those guys are capable of 15 wins next year. Scary isn't it? On top of having the best starting 5 in the MLB already they are possibly going to add Johan Santana. If that happens I expect him to have Pedro Martinez-like years with Red Sox, and that team will be completely unstoppable in 2008.
