70 degrees today, what a blessing that was. Boston magically sprang to life on the first really warm day of the year. Newbury Street was packed with lots of people, some college students some Euro trash, and some of the yuppiest people Boston has to offer. It was wonderful, this winter was depressing in many different ways and I was longing for some nice weather. I could use about another week of days like today, then I'd be ready for snow again. What can I say I love being miserable, if there was nothing to complain about then I just wouldn't be myself.

So for Memorial Day weekend this year I am going to be in San Diego. It will be my first time in California, I am very excited about it. It is still 2 months away and in the meantime I have alot of smaller goals to achieve. As there are only about 3 weeks left in this semester, it is crunch time!

It was only about 3 weeks ago that I first heard of this band called the Arctic Monkeys and that is all the time it has taken for me to fall in love with them. Thier album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not," has alot of really catchy tunes and the lead vocalist Alex Tuner has a pretty unique voice. They are playing at the Paradise Rock Club tomorrow night, I wish I had bought tickets sooner because from what I'm hearing they have been sold out for quite sometime. The band comes from a suburb outside of Sheffield, England, and all of the members include vocalist and lead guitarist Alex Tuner, bass guitarist Andy Nicholson, rhtym guitarist Jamie Cook, and drummer Matt Helders. I became a fan instantly, go out and get the album or at least download a few tracks and you'll see what I'm talking about.

After a long weekend of parties, drinking, and dating, It's back to work, and this week I have to work my ass off. I have now found out that I'm not getting suspended for that whole alcohol incident with Mike and the alcohol, but I have to write a 1500 word essay, pay a $100 dollar fine, and complete 10 hours of community service. All before May 6th or else I won't be graduating this semester. On Saturday night I went to a party where the theme was crazy hats and sunglasses, as you can see I choose glasses over the crazy hats.

"Beware the Ides of March", so this term is quoted every year on March 15th by some newspaper, magazine, or better yet spoken by an english professor in some corner of the Earth. It comes from William Shakespare's play Julius Ceasar, a few days before Ceasar was killed he was warned to beware by a village elder if my memory serves correct. It was a funny reason for which Julius Ceasar was killed. You simply can't please everybody all the time. I say you know you are doing your job right when you have people who oppose what you are doing. The only way to get recognition in this world is to fuck everything up, if you are doing a good job it generally goes un-noticed. Come on when is the last time someone made a big deal over a job well done in your life? Aren't you usually ridiculed when you screw something up? That is why today my "Kudos" goes to George W. Bush, you have been making the world a more dangerous place to live for more than 5 years now. Cheers to you!

Its just about that time of year again, when College Basketball is center stage and this year the NCAA will be more exciting than most others. Two of the most exciting players I have ever seen, both have a shot at winning the National Championship. JJ. Redick of Duke and Adam Morrison of Gonzaga, the best case senario would have these two meeting in the finals, but since I am bad at predicting sports I'll leave that up to the people who know best.

The World Baseball Classic which is the equivalent of the World Cup of Baseball started last week. I watched a few games the best one being a game in which team Canada defeated the United States 8 -6. They came out of that game with a 2 - 0 record in the round robin play which in any other sport would gaurantee them a spot in the playoff style portion of the tournament. This tournament however seems to be set up so that team USA makes it to the finals no matter what. They play South Africa this afternoon with a chance to eliminate Canada. Are you just as lost as I am? Team USA lost to Canada but still can advance to the second round today by beating South Africa, while Canada gets nothing for starting the tournament with a 2-0 record. Long live the WBC.

What a way to spend my spring break! I have been in bed for the last 2 days with the flu. So much for enjoying my last spring break in some tropical climate. I guess its for the best becausae I would just be sick on a beach instead of sick in my own bed.

This week has been a gauntlet of drinking nights because there is something to celebrate every night. Last night was Fat Tuesday, today is Ash Wednesday and also the Welsh holiday of St. David's Day. Then tomorrow is the ever present Thirsty Thursday, and this Friday is being reffered to as Fungus Friday.
We here at "The World According to Shawn" are not big fans of the Welsh ever since that fateful day in 2001, but any occassion to celebrate with alcohol is well appreciated.
